Diabetes charity funded by Big Pharma

The road to hell is paved with good intentions--and nowhere is that more true than in charities.

You may have the best of intentions when you give your hard-earned money to a charity that claims to be dedicated to fighting a disease... but some of those organizations will put your money to work on a massive superhighway right to you-know-where.

That's because many of those groups work so closely with Big Pharma they're practically arms of the drug industry themselves.

Just take a look at the American Diabetes Association.

One diabetic blogger recently posted a link to the charity's 2008 revenue data, which you can find right here.

The list of donors is a who's who of Big Pharma, with the major drug companies kicking in a combined $19 million for 2008 alone--including $2.8 million from Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

In 2009, as a growing number of studies exposed the heart risks tied to the diabetes drug Avandia, the ADA urged diabetics to switch to Actos.

Actos is made by... that very same Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

A coincidence? You decide--but I can't help but notice that the ADA didn't mention the supplements that can help diabetics get off drugs completely, including chromium, cinnamon, and benfotiamine.

Nope. Just a drug made by a major corporate "partner."

And the potential for conflict doesn't end there... that's just the beginning.

Take a closer look at their annual report, and you'll find that they've created special categories for their biggest donors: the "Banting Circle Elite" for those who kick in more than $1 million, and the "Banting Circle" for those who give more than $500,000.

Every "circle" member--elite or otherwise--is a drug company.

Next, take a look online at their "Strategic Plan," and you'll find their internal goal is to "maximize corporate, pharmaceutical and foundation contributions" to achieve "an annual compound growth rate of 9.1 percent."

That's some goal... and who knows how many bargains they'll have to make to reach it.

Here's the real truth: The ADA pushes a high-carb lifestyle that will make the disease worse, not better. It also recommends statins for nearly everyone--not to mention drugs like the Actos I mentioned earlier.

Follow the ADA plan, and you'll be sicker than ever--and more miserable, too, as your disease spirals out of control and you add a battle with drug side effects to the mix.

As they always try to fool the American public, what better way to push their drugs but to infiltrate so called charities, where a few get good wages to peddle all these junk, and the one that gets me the most is the cancer foundation where we see these kids bless their little hearts asking for help, yet with all these contributions and all that money for research, have not improved one bit, they refuse to use some known better alternatives without all that nasty side effects that all radiation and chemo treatment produces, and on top of that parents are being prosecuted just because they are trying to save their kids from all this nightmare of medications that at the end is even worst than the sickness, feel free to comment. Agree with JAM. People have blind faith in the doctors that they know and will do what is best and do not even check out the success rates of traditional methods vs the alternatives. Give me things that build health and bolster the immune system rather than destroy it. I have seen testimony after testimony of people who had stage 4 and were given up on by traditional doctors only to experience a "miraculous" healing when they used alternatives to western medicine methodology. Challenge a person's blind faith in doctors in a supportive way and share about other alternatives and see the reaction. Even though great finesse is used, many people choose to hold onto the magnificent failure of chemotherapy.

You are very right JAM, but you missed one important factor in our downward spiral of health and healthcare, The FDA. They are just as culpable and guilty as the charities that allow 'donations' from BIG Pharma. If there is no other eason to be wary of Federal Government Healthcare, it is the FDA and their long list of sins they have placed upon the American public. You can not watch TV for more than 20 minutes without seeing a lawyer hawking yet another dismal failure of FDA approved medicines or procedures. Further the FDA stands in the way of almost every alternative medicine or natural healing product or method out there. My husband suffered from diabetes for years, taking one medicine after another until he ended up on insulin to control his type II diabetes. I decided that enough was enough. I did some research (actually quite a bit of research) and put a regimine together for him. We changed his eating habits, got him to lose some weight, and put him on oxygen (just breathing it) 3 times a week for 20 minutes at a time. I am happy to say that he no longer takes any insulin or medication for his diabetes. He has had perfect blood sugar readings (90-100) every day for the past year and a half. His energy is renewed and he has never felt better. When we told his doctor about the results etc. his comment was that "he isn't cured, just lucky". I am not sure what defines a cure, but I know that it won't come from a bottle of pills from BIG Pharma! By the way, we changed doctors too. Here's hoping that people keep fighting for the alternatives that are out there!

I will never take statins or oral diabetes meds, and am working to get off my hypertension scrip. We are what we eat! Just wish I could get my dad over his blind trust of MD's--unfortunately, at his age, it's not likely.

Looking around me I try not to despair. Try to learn so I can teach and share, add my experience into the brew. Try to educate my doctor as well, this is in my best interest and those I take to him because he is better then the average and his heart is in the right place how ever he is still being captured a fair bit by big pharma .Not an easy task to educate him nor easy for him to risk confrontation with the propaganda. He fears jeopardizing his license if he would embrace credible alternatives as well, taking the best of each modality cooperating. Another atrocity is the lack of founding to trial complementary substances and procedures. Governments, regulators and medical associations are in bed with big pharma. My aim is not pharma bashing though. I am saddened AND OUTRAGED for the evil perpetrated by some companies. Profit I accept is part of the deal, but not on the mega scale. The evil of producing and allowed on the market medical drugs that are not medicines in my vocabulary , vaccines that are not tested adequately and contain deadly toxins, and more, the corruption and the persecution of whistleblowers and the known to be effective natural alternatives. This adds up to crimes against humanity! But don't we deserve what is coming to us if we are lazy to rise up and get the vermin eradicated? Pharmaceutical companies with few exceptions are not ethical concerns. Business used to be integral part of the community. Big Pharma is just business and predatory at that! Feeding of the community. A parasite. This is not the fault of money. Not the fault of entrepreneurs per se. Both needed in society. We slid into being dominated by a toxic elite at the helm of our society. But if we don't care we are not victims but volunteers to be trampled down by Elite without normal values, elite without integrity, EVIL of high ability, high intelligence without an educated heart. I read some time ago somewhere that Pure Mind is evil, and Pure HEART is stupid. Big Pharma has no heart nor do those who are in bed with it.-

My interest is for the comment # 3 above where the lady had put together a process for her husband of changing eating habits, losing some weight and 20 minutes of Oxygen breathing to bring the diabetes in control. It seems the process is simple and I am glad it produced the desired results. In changing the eating habits, did she eliminate high carb foods or she selected the foods that are non traditional foods? and also is there any proportion of Oxygen that was used for breathing? I am a Type II diabetic and I am looking for alternative means to control my blood glucose numbers in order to drop my medications all together. Any help in this regards will be highly appreciated.

I know what you mean, MusherMaggie. I decided a long time ago that I would choose alternative nutritional approaches for T2Diabetes. Two doctors sent me certified letters giving me 30 to find another doctor. I had a bad experience with the third doctor when he decided I needed 24 hour observation in a hospital for a pain in my upper back close to my left shoulder blade. When I got home, my system was so messed up. No water. No fresh veggies. They gave me stuff I never take and Dr. W knew it. When he made his morning rounds, he kept insisting I needed to be on a statin. When I visited his clinic, he insisted I needed an ACE inhibitor. I never went back. I take supplements and try to eat whole foods when I can. It's not easy and I expect that it's going to get more and more complicated as big pharma continues to sabotage us with real food and supplements instead of the drugs. Food is our medicine and medicine is our food. I try to share what I've learned and people look at me as if I have grown a third eye in the middle of my forehead. lol

What can the general population do to stop Big Pharma from getting involved in charities which only help fill their greedy coffers and at the same time - KILL us? When will we get an honest government who will fight hard to make their citizens healthy and keep Big Pharma and the FDA out of the picture.
Perhaps we need a revolution. It is getting very bad with these organizations taking advantage of the sick and vulnerable.
Diseases are getting more rampant with no cures in sight and there never will be any cures with the greedy Big Pharma, government and the FDA in charge.

Yep, just like the Sun scare campaign waged by big pharma companies like L'Oreal cosmetic/pharma.

They make multi-billions on sunscreen, they pay out millions to skin cancer foundations and the derm. assoc. to push their toxic chemical and terrify you from the sun.

They conduct conflict of interest junk science such as the famous WHO IARC report, and send out press releases to the MSM as if it's truth.

Then when everyone starts showing signs of Vitamin D Deficiency diseases, they make hundreds of billions to treat that.

I agree, I do not believe big pharma has any interest in finding cures only treating what ails you and I believe they will stoop to the lowest levels of hell to achieve their goal; making money off the unsuspecting and unenlightened.

I assume that the "Banting Circle Elite" is a reference to Frederick Banting who helped discover insulin. A letter writer in the National Post in Canada today pointed out that Banting and Best sold their patent for insulin to the University of Toronto for $1. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change for pharmaceutical companies to forgo profits in the interest of humanitarianism?
