Cigarette smoking finally has an upside
Yes, there's an upside. But not for smokers. Smokers (and I was one of you for a long time), be honest...you already knew that.
Enterprising Chinese researchers soaked cigarette butts in water and extracted a mix of chemicals that protect steel pipes from rusting. Oil pipes were used in the experiment because rusted and corroded pipes are a constant and expensive problem in the oil industry.
Researchers say it was difficult to come up with a practical use for cigarette butts.
I'll bet!
Party confetti? Fail. Mattress stuffing? Epic fail. Pipe rust-proofing? Win!
The good news for oil companies is that the raw materials are abundant. Reuters Health notes that 4.5 trillion cigarette butts "find their way into the environment" every year.
That's a nice way of saying 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are tossed from cars and dropped on sidewalks.
I have to say, I wouldn't mind seeing guys in BP jumpsuits out picking up cigarette butts from roadsides and rest stops.

An ex friend of mine who kicked me out after 25 years friendship had enough of me trying to get him stop smoking one of the detrimental habits he could change to minimize the damage already advanced with his multiple and serious risk factors, WOULD STOP AT THE HEADLINE nor reading further and victoriously put it under my nose. He also said once we all need to satisfy our nicotine needs otherwise why would we all have nicotine receptors in our brain, it must be there for a reason! I am past despair at such idiocy and perhaps start celebrating irresponsibility and lumpen madness just as we often laugh when overwhelmed by extreme pain and sadness...

Uncle joe, i appreciate your comments, and know the frustration of trying to get through to people who's mentality defies logic, or the attitudes of mediocrity which some people have, One can only assume that the "medication" has taken it's toll, and the "dumbing down" process has set in, but one can only keep trying, and hope that these people see the light, also while i'm here, Thanks Jenny Thompson, and Thanks H S I, m.c.

guys, come on! some people will benefit from the de-stressing they find in the tobacco plant. it is not just a cigarette, it is tobacco, a plant, used medicinally for generations. people still use it because it helped them, not everybody, so, if not you, you do not understand.
(its most likely a brain chemical thing, very common in mental health communities) really!
what those people need are cigarettes without the chemical poisons added for flavor and burn qualities. yeah, they were added right about when we added all the other crazy chemicals to our environment. (do the search) maybe if it was just tobacco they were inhaling and not a chemical bath, it would not be so bad. for the ones who benefit.. just saying
thanks

YO HO! Great Comment Anonymous! You're correct on that one.., blame it on politics and government who allow the cigarette companies to add all these debilitating chemicals to the cigarettes..,
It's not the tobacco plant itself that is dangerous, but the people who incorporate the tobacco into cigarettes. We have many Plain Amish Folks here who grow their own tobacco and smoke their own, without all the added chemicals. They are fine healthy people which are many who still plow the fields that are up in their age. It's all Politics between the Government who allows chemicals to go into cigarettes, main stream medicine who participates with the drug companies, and the insurance companies who controls the health of the people. It's putting money in everyones pocket.

I am a smoker who has failed miserably to quit several times it is a tough addiction to break mentaly and physicaly and yes there are safer cigarettes but it is not normal for the body to inhale smoke so there is no safe cigarette so i will keep trying to quit

One of my biggest pet peeves is people who litter and throw their cigarette butts out the window. Oh my!! That ticks me off. Depending on the situation, sometimes I am able to pull my digital camera out and video them doing it. I be sure to get their license plate number, too!! Then I post it on YouTube and my blogs. They are disrespecting our beautiful country, and breaking the law by littering, and I am sure there is another law that encompasses throwing something from a moving vehicle (they call it a missile, whatever the object may be).
I have no issues with "smokers" as people, but not as an individual group. "Smokers" don't have rights. PEOPLE have rights. And as people here in America, we have ALL THE SAME RIGHTS under the Constitution. People who smoke have just the same right to breath smoke free air as I do. They don't have to exercise their right to smoke free air, but they CANNOT take away my right to smoke free air.
