Cancer's favorite food is in just about everything

I hate feeling good about bad news.

But I just can't help it.

The news? That fructose is more or less the absolute favorite food of cancer cells.

It's awful, I know -- fructose is gobbled up in large amounts by Americans in the form of high fructose corn syrup. With so many people eating so much of it each year, this news is downright devastating.

But as terrible as this news is, it also gives me a glimmer of hope. Hope that the day when HFCS is just a bad memory isn't too far off.

I know, I know. This isn't the first time that I've expressed hope that HFCS could soon be a thing of the past. Serious weight gain, liver scarring...really, how much more do we need to find out about this stuff before it's enough to get it out of the grocery store for good?

I mean, it's getting pretty ridiculous. Here we have a substance that is CLEARLY harmful, yet food manufacturers remain content to plug up their ears and keep churning out HFCS-laden products.

When will they wake up and stop willfully poisoning food?

I don't think using the word "poisoning" is taking it too far, either, especially in light of this new study. Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles found that pancreatic cancer cells use fructose to divide and multiply. It's basically a superfood for cancer cells.

The American Beverage Association has long argued that sugar is sugar -- and remember those ads cheerfully claiming that HFCS is fine in moderation, just like sugar? Well, sorry, but that line isn't going to work anymore.

Cancer cells use fructose and glucose in two different ways. They can live off regular sugar (glucose), but fructose is what fuels their division.

The research team responsible for this work now hopes to develop a drug that can stop cancer cells from using fructose.

Is it just me, or does that sound totally insane? How about we just stick with getting rid of the stuff? It's not like there's some benefit we'd be missing out on if it disappears.

Very ignorant position you express. Fructose is the sugar in fruit. If it were bad then God put poison in fruit trees. That man figured a way to extract it cheaply from corn is a miracle you should be grateful. The basic energy molecule made from photosynthesis is sugar. Cut down your intake if you like. I like to use a little corn syrup with salt in my Kimche recipes. Actually, finding a way to stop cancer from using sugar is a pretty good idea and would probably cure it once and for all, if you can believe the pharmaceutical companies would allow it. Nature already did that with laetrile, Vit. B-17, in apricot pits but also sprouts; cyanide in a sugar molecule, outlawed by FDA.

Like Conservative Talk Shows, you are preaching to the wrong people. The people who need the data, and information on harmful things in food, is the Companies who make those products with that bad thing. Like Soda Pop companies and HFCS. Jams and jelly companies, any companies that use it. It does no good to tell individuals, except to warn them. Which I am all for!!!!! So don't get me wrong.
You start an organization that not only warns the public, but contacts companies with data, information, and studies done on that harmful item, showing that company how it can affect people. I have trouble with CANOLA OIL!!!! It is bad for the eyes!!! HFCS can make my ears ring worse. These additives can cause headaches and other problems. And if you are already weak or ill, then it can affect you worse.
We are killing ourselves with ignorance. We choke our cells, and starve our cells of nutrition. We are poisoning ourselves and we don't even know it for the most part!!!
So stay informed, and keep getting the word out, not only to the public, but the government, and the actual companies that produce these products. Tell them there are safer non-toxic, non-damaging alternatives to the additives or ingredients to their products.
It is like RECYCLING!!!!! Not many people did it in the beginning. Now it is a WAY OF LIFE!!!!!!
BE WELL AND HAPPY!

Steve i just read the Douglas report on Xylitol https://www.web-purchases.com/... Whats your opinion of this sugar? Also i have heard that you have to avoid the corn based sugar and get the, birch tree based item. I have read about some minimal side effects but from what i can tell if you dont overdo it, its a good germ destroyer. would be interested in your comments. thanks, Peter

That last comment about a drug being developed to stop cancer using frustose to divide is about as barmy as it gets. Fructose is produced by fruit, but unless you eat kilos of fruit per day, its not likely to have the same effect as HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN - so to those people who use that as an argument you are just as barmy. What we need is education and for people to WAKE UP from their sugar coma. Stop drinking any soft drinks out of a can or bottle, start reading the labels and lists of ingredients on everything, start learning what it all means.....Stop leaving your health in the hands of people who are not interested in maintaining it. Take Charge. Then there will be a change for the better.

Well, that's fine - we agree about HFCS. But what about the switchover now happening with the use of "crystalline fructose"?
Same deal?
